Richard Critchlow, Creative Director

Dependable Productions is run by Creative Director Richard Critchlow. Richard spent 17 years at the BBC. He began his career as a Radio Studio Manager before moving quickly into radio production. Initially he worked on a broad range of speech and music radio entertainment programmes before moving into News. TV beckoned where he worked for 10 years.  He rose to the position of Senior Producer within the Special Events department. Within this role he produced countless hours of TV seen by many millions of people around the globe.

He was responsible for the BBC's coverage of the final flight of Concorde. In the programme he secured an exclusive interview with The Duke Of Edinburgh, exclusive access to the Heathrow Control Tower, Exclusive live two way communication with the Concorde Flight Deck and exclusive access to the Sky over London to follow the final flight with a Helicopter mounted camera. The programme was watched on BBC2 by a record daytime audience of almost 4 million in the UK and countless millions around the world.

He was responsible for coverage of many Royal events involving close cooperation with Buckingham Palace, The Police, The Royal Parks and many other agencies.

He was twice responsible for the coverage of the midnight moment on New Years Eve on BBC1.  9 cameras spread across and above London watched by an audience of 11 million.

In 2005, Richard was responsible for the BBC Election Bus Project.  He was responsible for the design of this revolutionary mobile TV and radio studio which toured the UK for a month with a crew of 40 people to bring a unique perspective on the issues affecting people throughout the UK.  Broadcasting for up to 5 hours a day including a co-presentation of the 6 O'Clock News, the bus quickly became known throughout the UK and performed flawlessly in a new location every day.  This was an ambitious project for BBC news which was to differentiate the BBC's coverage throughout the campaigns. Other BBC career highlights were the coverage of the England Rugby and Cricket victory parades through London, coverage of the Soham and Sarah Payne trials and being a champion of new technology to continually enhance production values within BBC News.
